Please join us on Monday, April 22nd, 2019 when the 786 Club (the Union League Club of Chicago's organization supporting the U.S. Navy submarine USS Illinois/SSN 786) welcomes to its quarterly luncheon Navy Admiral James F. Caldwell, Jr., Director, Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Admiral Caldwell graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. degree in Marine Engineering; he also holds an M.S. in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School. His prior commands include USS Jacksonville; Submarine Development Squadron in New London, Connecticut; Submarine Group 9 in Bangor, Washington; and Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Hawaii. His operational assignments include duty as engineering officer on USS Alabama and executive officer on USS Buffalo. Ashore, Caldwell served on the Pacific Fleet Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board, as Undersea Warfare Requirements officer on the staff of Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet, and as deputy commander for U.S. Strategic Command’s Joint Functional Component Command. His most recent tour was with the Office of Naval Operations Staff as the Director, Navy Staff. He assumed his duties as Director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program in August 2015.

The 786 Club luncheon begins with a reception at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch and program at noon and adjournment by 1:30 p.m. The price is $35 per person (plus Eventbrite fee), including tax and gratuity. Please note: the Union League Club of Chicago maintains a "business casual" dress code -- i.e., no jeans/denim or athletic wear.
